In fact, the 2024 summer season, approximately $2 million was earned for School Infrastructure through the 1% seasonal sales tax.

Local Budget Issues Prior to the increase in Cruise Tourism
Before the surge in Cruise Tourism in Sitka, the City and Borough Assembly, along with the School District, faced challenging choices each spring during the budget cycle. These decisions involved cuts to community services, raising taxes, and the reduction of city jobs.
